Kangerlussuaq is mainly known as the airport and the international gateway to Greenland. However, there are much more to be seen here. Incredible sights, including fertiile mountains, beautiful lakes and turbulent rivers. Kangerlussuaq is the only destination in Greenland where you can actually drive by car to the inland Ice Cap - a three million cubic kilometres lump of ice! Kangerlussuaq is also the place in Greenland where the Arctic wild life best can be experienced. The area is a resort for reindeer and musk oxen but also arctic foxes and arctic birds live in the region. K1: Sightseeing in Kangerlussuaq A tour by minibus where the guide shows the location of all service facilities such as swimming pool, bowling centre, night club etc. The guide will tell the interesting history of the former military airbase which is now a modern village and a hectic civilian airport. A visit to the museum is also included. Duration: 2 hours (approx.) Price: DKK 295 K2: The Inland Ice Cap by 4x4 Vehicle A tour by 4-wheel-drive cars through an Arctic desert, along rivers, through old glacier valleys and over small mountains directly to the Inland Ice Cap. We will be driving on narrow mountain tracks in slow speed. En route we make several photo stops, walk to some view points to overlook the fantastic Arctic landscape. Our destination is the steep glacier front of The Russell Glacier, where you will experience the activity of the ice on warm summer days: Big pieces of ice falling off making big thunder-like noises. Alternatively we might be driving to point 660 where you have the possibility to walk on the Inland Ice Cap. (Actual destination will be decided just before departure depending on the weather.) Duration: 4-5 hours (approx.) Price: DKK 550 The world's biggest population of wild Musk Oxen are living in close range of Kangerlussuaq. We drive by minibus to an area where there will be possibilities to see musk oxen and reindeer. Please note that we are going into the wilderness; it is not a zoo.
